The 16th century. One of the Catholic Church’s most turbulent periods in history. The Iconoclastic Fury raged through Antwerp. Images of saints were banned. Artists devoted themselves to a new style and painted the portrait of churches, resulting in divine interiors.
The temporary exhibition ‘Divine Interiors shows paintings and drawings of church interiors from the age of Rubens.
The tour Divine Interiors in this app guides your through the exhibtion and provides you with extra information about several works of art.
The exhibition continues in the city. The tour Divine Trail takes you along six Antwerp churches, two of which disappeared over the course of time. At these locations, the churches are brought back to life in a 3D reconstruction.
